It’s that time of year when you start thinking about the company Christmas party, and if you have been given the job of organising it you’ll want to make sure that everything is right so your colleagues can have a night to remember. The first thing to consider is the function venues which are available in the area where you live. There are likely to be hundreds of these if you live in a city or large town, so how do you find the one which is right for your group? You can go on word of mouth recommendations, which can be the perfect solution, or if you prefer to find your own place one way to do this is to use a venue finder which will cut down the amount of time you have to spend looking through all those venues for hire.

Another thing to bear in mind is this. If your group will be going straight from work to the party, you'll want to find a venue that is near to the office. This can be walking distance or it could be a short taxi ride away, and if you're planning on staying in one place for the whole evening, then it should also be convenient for people to get home at the end of the night. There’s nothing worse than at the end of a great night having to find taxis to get home, especially if home is miles away from the function venues. You'll need a venue that can accommodate the numbers who are attending. If you cram everyone into a place that's too small this won’t be comfortable and will take away the party atmosphere you are looking for. Having said that, if you hire a place which is too big, your guests may end up huddling together in little groups, and once again this will affect the ambience.

Once you have decided on the venue and you are happy with it, it’s time to start thinking about the people who will be there on the evening. It’s important that you choose the right kind of music for the group as this can also affect how the night progresses. If your colleagues are, shall we say, a more mature age group you don’t want the DJ to be playing the wrong kind of music, and you definitely don’t want it to be played too loud!

If you want food on the night, talk to the venue owners and see what they can offer you. It may be that you want to keep things simple, so a buffet or light snacks will be enough, but if you are planning on a sit down meal then you will have to put a bit more work in to make sure that everything is right on the night.

Once you have followed these few basic guidelines you will be able to relax and enjoy the night along with your work colleagues. Don’t forget, you are supposed to enjoy the Christmas party as well!
