Fireplaces are becoming more popular in recent years with more home owners installing them to keep their homes warm.

As more fireplaces are installed in homes and in new builds, it seems that the traditional design is seeing something of resurgence as more people are opting for an open fire.

According to an article by the Telegraph, the National Association of Chimney Sweeps and the Solid Fuel Association, business has grown by 20 per cent in the past three years thanks to the growing number of contemporary designs such as marble fireplaces being installed.

Marble fireplaces and other designs are thought to be making a comeback partly due to the economic recession. Whereas, heating the home by using gas or electricity used to be the ‘done’ thing, thanks to rising prices from energy suppliers, more and more householders have decided to look to their fireplace as a more cost effective way of heating the home.

In fact, other designs such as wood burning stoves have become very popular in recent years as many regard them as a greener and more environmentally friendly way of heating the home.

Speaking to the newspaper recently, fireplace and stove installer, Bill Tulip explains that he has seen such an increase in demand in recent months that he now has a three month waiting list.

He said: "I have been installing fires and stoves for 12 years and the past two have been the busiest by far."

Thanks to the growing popularity of interior design television shows and magazines, the fireplace has also become a very stylish design statement in the home. It can be brought to life with a range of stylish accessories such as dried flower arrangements and metal buckets and tong sets making it a stylish addition to any home.
